    Responsibilities:

    • Assist the head athletic trainer with all aspects of medical care for varsity sport athletic team members including: prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries to include practice, game and athletic training room coverage. 
    • Participate as a team member in the development and support of excellence within the athletics programs. 
    • Supervision of athletic training students as a preceptor for Athletic Training Education Program  

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • BOC certification required.
    • State of Wisconsin Athletic Training licensure or eligible.
    • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) with emphasis in athletic training
    • Current Cardiac Care Certification (ARC or AHA programs)

    Additional Assets:

    • Experience in developing university/community collaborations in athletic training
    • Previous collegiate athletic training experience.
    • Excellent communication skills (both written & oral)
    • Ability to maintain patient and student confidentiality
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • First Aid and CPR instructor certification preferred
    • Ability to lift and move up to 30-80 pounds

    ·      Ability to stand for extended periods or time in variable indoor and outdoor climates and surfaces

    Essential Duties/

    Expectations:

    • Provide support/assistance in athletic training coverage for 25 varsity sport practices and games including nights & weekends as assigned by Head Athletic Trainer and/or Director of Athletics
    • Provide appropriate medical care, treatment, and injury evaluations
    • Documentation of injuries, treatments, and medical notes
    • Referral of athletes to appropriate healthcare professionals as needed
    • ImPACT Concussion testing administration and communication
    •  Supervise and  manage daily training room operations
    • Maintain communication and coordinate care with team physicians and other allied health professionals
    • Demonstrate knowledge of and follow university, WIAC, and NCAA rules and regulations
    • Follow and abide all OSHA mandates and requirements
    • Assist with supervision of athletic training students
    • Serve as a preceptor for UWEC Masters of Science in Athletic Training Program

    ·        Other duties as assigned by Director of Athletics and/or Head Athletic Trainer

    Knowledge and Skills

    ·        Methods, practices, terminology, and techniques used in Athletic Training activities, including the prevention and rehabilitation of injuries.

    ·        Principles and practices of supervision and providing work direction.

    ·        Policies, procedures, and objectives of physical education and athletic programs.

    ·        Advanced principles of anatomy and physiology. Symptoms of athletic injuries, applicable treatment, and first aid methods.

    ·        Various types of therapeutic treatment, equipment, and conditioning programs.

    ·        Rules and regulations applying to safe equipment operation and medical care.

    ·        Oral and written communication skills.

    ·        Record-keeping techniques.

    ·        Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

    ·        Operate a personal computer, calculator, and standard office equipment.

    ·        Operate rehabilitation equipment and modalities.

    Abilities

    ·        Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.

    ·        Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

    ·        Meet schedules and timelines.

    ·        Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others including athletes, trainers, coaches, parents, doctors, and professional associations.

    ·        Understand and work within the scope of authority.

    ·        Work in indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions; continuous standing and walking; moderate lifting and carrying; travel from site to site.

    ·        Maintain medical records and prepare health related reports.

    ·        Utilize work processing and database software applications.

    Physical Demands

    Requires sufficient visual acuity to recognize words and numbers; speech and auditory abilities to carry on conversations in large audience, personal, and phone conversations. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Will occasionally have to lift heavy objects (approximately 30 to 80 pounds).
