    Transition to Practice Athletic Trainer

    Massachusetts Institute of Technology is seeking a highly motivated individual grounded in evidence-based practice for a Transition to Practice Athletic Trainer position. This opportunity is ideal for a newly certified Athletic Trainer looking to gain experience, build confidence, and be mentored by a large sports medicine staff. A robust candidate should have excellent communication skills (written and oral) with a positive disposition, along with strong time management and organizational skills.

    This is anticipated to be a 9.5-month non-benefits eligible position from August 2025 to May 2026 with a stipend of $40,000 based on a 30-hour per week commitment. Additional hours worked beyond 30 hours will be compensated at our current per diem rate. Individual will also be reimbursement for membership dues and licensure fees. Due to the current financial crisis and hiring freeze, funding for this position will require review and approval by MIT Human Resources every 6 months.  

    MIT sponsors 33 intercollegiate athletic teams and supports both NCAA Division I (men’s and women’s crew) & Division III programs. MIT is a proud member of the New England Women and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). This Transition to Practice offers exposure to a large variety of sports, administrative tasks, and professional development.

    General Responsibility:

    -Apply best-practice knowledge & skills in athletic training including prevention, recognition, evaluation, diagnosis, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation, reconditioning, organization & administration, and professional development & responsibility.

    -Demonstrate attributes, characteristics, behaviors that align with the department’s shared values and purpose.

    -Exhibit professional effectiveness and consistent patient satisfaction.

    -Participate in seasonal varsity team assignments with event coverage and patient care.

    -Participate in a clinical schedule-rotation to provide patient care and health & safety management to student participants within DAPER club sport programs.

    -Collaborate with other Athletic Training and DAPER staff to prepare and oversee day-to-day operations of Kasser Sports Medicine Center.

    -Individuals will be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays during the academic year.

    Requirements:

    -Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Education Program

    - BOC Certification and in good standing

    - Licensed or eligible for licensure through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

    -Candidate should possess a valid driver’s license

    -Current CPR-PR/AED certification
