    Job Description:

    Job Summary:
    The responsibility of the Assistant Athletic Trainer will be to administer all facets of the athletics training program as well as the clinical education program for student athletics trainers.  The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports directly to the Head Athletic Trainer.

     

    Essential Functions:    

    1.    Provide comprehensive care for all injuries and illnesses sustained by student athletes.
    2.    Maintain a medical file for each student-athlete, including written records of all care rendered.
    3.    Attend all home contests of high-risk sports, and as many away contests as needed.
    4.    Personally attend or provide satisfactory alternate coverage for all practice sessions in each sport.
    5.    Foster relationships among trainers, the team physician, other attending physicians, health services, coaches, athletes, and parents.
    6.    Develop, implement and supervise a clinical education program for student athletics trainers and select individuals to participate in same.
    7.    Adhere to CAAHEP accredited programs, NATA Code of Ethics, Code of Professional Practice, Department of Health Guidelines for Conduct of Licensees, and NAIA Code of Ethics.
    8.    Maintain the sports medicine facilities and equipment.
    9.    Prepare and maintain the sports medicine budget.
    10.    Assist the head coaches with injury prevention and physical conditioning.
    11.    Assist in special events and tournaments, championships, fundraisers, and/or clinics.
    12.    Prepare an end-of-year (fiscal year) summary for each coach/sport.
    13.    Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all athletics staff members and student-athletes through a positive and constructive approach to all tasks, respect for the competencies of others, and appropriate conflict resolution behavior.
    14.    Submits transportation requests and required travel documentation to the Athletic Director as required.
    15.    Assists in special events and tournaments, championships, fundraisers, and/or clinics to include, but not limited to, major fundraisers, camps, and/or clinics.
    16.    Subscribes and adheres to the NAIA Coaches Code of Conduct.
    17.    Subscribes and promotes the NAIA Champions of Character student development.
    18.    Attend all scheduled meetings.
    19.    Assist in enrolling student-athletes according to OLLU Admissions policies and standards.
    20.    Adhere to Residence Life procedures to securing housing accommodations.
    21.    Communicate effectively with all academic/faculty advisors, financial aid, business office, registrar and other university personnel.

     

    Additional Responsibilities:
    1.    Serves on committees as requested.
    2.    Participates in Athletic Department programs and activities.
    3.    Serves as liaison for the university community of faculty, staff, students and administrators.
    4.    Be CPR certified
    5.    Requires travel 5-10% of the time or as needed.
    6.    Serves as liaison for the university community of faculty, staff, students and administrators.
    7.    Will adhere to university policies, state and federal laws concerning Title IX, HIPPA, and FERPA policies.
    8.    Contribute and support the university vibrancy initiative.
    9.    Assist and maintain inventory at the beginning and end of the academic year.
    10.    Assist Head Trainer with conducting business within the limits of the allocated budget.
    11.    Support all athletic department activities and fundraisers.
    12.    Other duties as assigned.


    Requirements:

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    1. Effective organizational, oral and written communication skills.
    2. Ability to learn, apply and adhere to NAIA rules and regulations.
    3. Ability to interact well with officials, coaches, parents, media, and the public.
    4. Understanding of and commitment to the catholic faith and its traditions.
    5. Must be physically capable of running, lifting heavy objects, and standing for long periods of time.
    6. Ability to work collaboratively with other departments on campus.

     

    Education and Experience:

    1.  Bachelor's degree: National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) certification (required).
