    Athletic Trainer

     

    Position Overview: Athletic Trainer within the Concordia University St. Paul Athletics Department, which includes the complete healthcare of student-athletes, serving as the primary athletic trainer for specifically assigned teams and as a liaison among staff, athletes, parents, and team healthcare providers, managing assigned athletic training facilities and program records, and providing clinical supervision/education of students. Sports assignments are to be assigned depending on work experience. Current coverage options include Football, Women's Basketball, and Women's Lacrosse.

     

    Essential Duties:

    • Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation.  Assess the risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation, and overall wellness promotion. 
    • Electronic documentation of all patient encounters
    • Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs for each patient
    • Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sports, for student-athletes with restrictions or limitations
    • Abide by NCAA, NSIC, and CSP rules and regulations
    • Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes.
    • Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating procedures.
    • Responsible for administrative and other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Education and Training

    • Bachelor’s Degree: Required
    • Master’s Degree: Preferred
    • Certification or Licensure: Required – BOC certified and possess state athletic training registration

    Competencies

    • Applied Knowledge: Must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems.   Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required
    • Decision Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
    • Attention to Detail: Should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation
    • Ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision
    • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families
