    St. John's is a Roman Catholic University in Queens, NY. The Sports Medicine department is seeking 1 certified Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for the 2023-2024 school year. St. John's has 17 Division 1, NCAA sports team that compete in the Big East Conference. We are responsible for the care of all 310 athletes.

    This is a two year position while achieving your Master's Degree. The Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer will report to Supervising Athletic Trainer. Sport Assignment TBA. Practice/game coverage required.  Start date is August 2023.

    Responsibilities include:

    Day to day athletic training room/practice coverage. Travel required depending on sport. Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation. Communicate with physicians and coaches regarding injury status of athletes. Responsible for administrative duties assigned to you. Assess risk of injury, self care implementation, and overall wellness promotion. Electronic documentation of all patient encounters. Coordinate and implement injury prevention program and customized preventative strategies and programs to each patient. Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education, and prevention strategies.

    Requirements:

    BOC Certified

    -Will have to possess NY State licensure

    -CPR/AED, first aid Certified

    -Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training

    -Position is contingent upon acceptance into St. John's graduate program (Sport Management)

    Applied knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required

    Decision-Making Skills and ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions

    Thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation using EMR

    Experience with Insurance policies

    Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situations when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families

    Candidate should possess a desire to work in the sports medicine field

    Candidate must portray St. John's in a professional manner.
