    Job Title Head Athletic Trainer
    Department Intercollegiate Athletics
    Essential Functions

    This candidate will serve as the Head Athletic Trainer for Omaha Athletics. The head athletic trainer will schedule and coordinate athletic training staff and students for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions. Assist the Sr. Associate AD of Performance in the development of the sports medical program budget. Ensure medical records are kept up to date by athletic training staff including history, daily treatment records, injury reports and physician referrals while in compliance with all current regulations. Coordinate and schedule pre-participation physical exams and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete. Managing the daily activities of the training room and treatment and rehabilitation of student-athlete injuries. Ensures primary and secondary insurance procedures are followed by all athletic trainers for compliance with University and NCAA policies. This position is responsible for assisting the Sr. Associate AD of Performance with all aspects of the sports medicine department, including service/clinical responsibilities. Will work closely with department supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success. Performs other duties as assigned.

    *Primary focus on men’s basketball. Men’s basketball practices year-round and requires frequent travel. This position also oversees all insurance for student athletes.

    Additional Duties
    • Injury Assessment and Care (includes acute, chronic, and post-operative care or orthopedic and general medical conditions). Practice and Event Coverage (includes home and away contests in potentially extreme conditions (hot and cold environments) .
    • Treatments and Rehabilitation of injuries incurred by student-athletes at UNO. Requires experience with non-operative and post-operative conditions. Knowledge of current modalities utilized in the common and advanced treatment of musculoskeletal and general medical conditions is required.
    • Administration including, but not limited to, insurance, injury tracking and record keeping, facilities maintenance, athletic training student records and scheduling. Must have good computer skills and experience with injury tracking software.
    Required Qualifications

    Required Education:

    • Master’s Degree in a related field.
    • At least 5 years of related experience, ideally working with student-athletes in an intercollegiate setting.


    Required Certification(s):

    • BOC Certification
    • NE State License (or eligible)
    Preferred Qualifications

    Preferred experience:

    • Experience with Men’s and Women’s Intercollegiate Athletics, Teaching Experience within a CAATE Accredited Athletic Training Education Program, Instructor Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
    • Experience/certification with alternative therapies (dry needling, blood flow restriction, IASTM, and myofascial decompression) to enhance the student-athletes treatment and recovery.
