    Description

    SUMMARY OF POSITION ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Provide athletic training needs for assigned teams (Assist with Football), Women's Basketball and Outdoor Track). Coordinate care with the head athletic trainer and sports medicine physicians. Assist with the inventory of athletic training supplies. Under the direction of the team physician for sports medicine, assist and supervise prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries to maintain maximum physical fitness for participating in athletic competitions. Participate in the education and supervision of athletic training students. Other duties as assigned to meet the Institute’s business needs.

    Primary (Essential) Functions

    • Attend all practices and home and away contests. Provide athletic training services, treatment of injuries, and rehabilitation for return to play from sport-related injury. Serve as post-surgery rehab coordinator for student-athlete injuries requiring long-term rehabilitation.
    • Study, evaluate, and recommend new techniques and equipment in physical training and physical therapy
    • Coordinate annual fall pre-participation sports physicals for new and returning student-athletes.
    • Serve as mental health liaison for athletics. Provide mental health information to the coaches and student-athletes.

    Participate in continuing education activities to maintain leading edge skills.

    Supervision

    Position receives general supervision. Position may have direct functional supervisory responsibilities over other nonexempt employees. May be involved in cross-functional work groups and be responsible for guiding the work. Position does not have administrative supervisory responsibilities.

    Normal Work Schedule

    Exempt employees often work more than 40 hours a week and can be required to adhere to a specific schedule for a variety of reasons, such as being available to other team members and to achieve an organization's goals and objectives 

    Position is required to travel as necessary for Institute business.

    Education, Training, and Experience

    -

    Minimum Qualifications:       

    A bachelor's degree in athletic training and two to three years of related work experience is required. Fiscal management, time management, organizational, and program coordination skills are necessary. Computer literacy is required, specifically spreadsheets, social media, and web design. Must be able to work and meet timelines with minimal supervision. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential; must be able to effectively speak to student athletes, parents, coaches, staff, and medical personnel. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence is required. Must be able to exercise diplomacy in all facets of the position. 

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    A master’s degree in athletic training or related field and three years of related work experience is preferred. 

    Required Licenses, Certifications, and Other Specific Requirements of Law

    Must pass a background check. A valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR (motor vehicle report) is required. Current certification in the IATA, NATA BOC, and licensure in Indiana is required. Current certification in Professional CPR/AED is necessary.

    Other Characteristics of the Position

    The work is performed both indoors and outdoors. The noise level in the working environment is usually moderate. Speaking, vision and hearing abilities are required. The employee must occasionally walk and stand extensively. The employee is rarely required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, be exposed to all weather conditions (extreme heat or cold) or be exposed to hazardous materials.
