    Job Description Summary

    Eastern Oregon University (EOU) is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer to work in the Athletic Department.

    The Assistant Athletic Trainer provides sports medicine care to the student-athletes in their respected sports. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. The position works closely and communicates effectively with coaches and staff to ensure smooth operations and care for student-athletes, as well as ensures smooth processes for teams and travel. The Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the head athletic trainer with operational support necessary to run an effective athletic training room and provide exceptional care.

    The Assistant Athletic Trainer ensures athletic excellence; supports the physical, emotional, social, and mental development of student-athletes through a robust system of care and support; embraces the responsibility of equitable treatment and promotion of diversity, acceptance, and inclusion; encourages innovation and cultivates a mindset for growth; promotes community engagement and character development through respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, and servant leadership; strictly adheres to the highest level of fiscal control and full compliance with all governing associations with transparency and integrity ; and engages EOU alumni through collaborative efforts that reflect a “Lifetime Mountie” approach.

    This Assistant Athletic Trainer position is a 10-mont position 

    Responsibilities
    • The prevention, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
    • Management of other health related conditions, including physical and mental conditions and referral of student-athletes to appropriate health care providers when necessary.
    • Educate student-athletes about health related issues such as physical conditioning, nutrition, and emotional health.
    • Provide coverage for all practices, contests, and EOU athletic camps.
    • Have the ability to communicate with coaches, physicians, and fellow athletic training staff.
    • Accurate record keeping of individual student-athlete medical history files.
    • Documentation of all injuries, treatments, rehabilitation, and medication dispensed. Maintain certification, 50 hours of continuing education units are required every two years. This includes, but is not limited to: the attendance of district and national conventions, committee involvement, self-study, and research.
    • Coordination of pre-participation physicals and return-to-activity clearance from physician referrals.
    • Maintain supply inventory and help in ordering supplies throughout the year.
    • Coordinate coverage or cover EOU camp events throughout the year.
    • First aid/ CPR/AED certified and certification maintenance.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or a related field required.
    • NATABOC certification and Eligible for OHA Licensure.
    • First Aid & CPR Certified.
    • Mental Health First Aid Certified.
    • Current and Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
    • Requires organization, accuracy, and efficiency in medical terminology, medical report taking, record keeping, filing, and oral and written communication.
    • In order to maintain certification, 80 hours of continuing education is required for every three years. This includes, but is not limited to: the attendance of district and national conventions, committee involvement, self-study, and research.
    • Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.
    • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Eastern Oregon University will not sponsor applicants for employment visas.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in athletic training or a related field.
