    Western Kentucky University, a member of Conference USA and a Football Bowl Subdivision (I-A) NCAA member institution, seeks to hire an individual for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer for Men's & Women's Cross Country/Track & Field. This is a 12-month, full-time position.  This position will report to the Sr Executive Director - Sports Medicine & Student-Athlete Welfare. Applicants must have a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of WKU, Conference USA and the NCAA.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive.  Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

    • Provide prevention, injury assessment, immediate medical care, treatment, conditioning, medical referrals and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries and illnesses
    • Provide coverage at all Cross Country/Track & Field events including practices, conditioning, and contests as well as travel with the team to all away contests
    • Responsible for coordinating and scheduling appropriate physician referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete
    • Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks
    • File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents
    • Maintain a daily treatment log for all student-athletes
    • Work in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs
    • Manage and maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room
    • Communicate with student-athletes, staff, medical providers, coaches, parents & administration in accordance with NATA, WKU & HIPPA guidelines
    • Assist with following rules of the NCAA, Conference USA, and Western Kentucky University
    • Assist in supervision of Smith Stadium Athletic Training room, part-time staff & students
    • Other duties as assigned by the Sr Executive Director - Sports Medicine & Student-Athlete Welfare

    Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success:

    • Experience working as an athletic trainer with the sports of cross country & track & field
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Must be self-motivated and team-oriented
    • Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills
    • Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends
    • The duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed in a competent manner following the highest standards for leadership, professionalism, integrity, accountability, responsibility, cooperation and customer service


    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in athletic training or related field
    • Certified through National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) in good standing
    • Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure eligible
    • Current CPR/AED certified for healthcare provider
