Montreat College is an NAIA school located in Montreat, NC. Their campus suffered significant damage after the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene. Their athletic training room was completely destroyed due to severe flooding. They lost modalities, equipment and supplies. We spoke with Ben Hill, Director of Sports Medicine, and asked him to provide a list of things they need to help rebuild their facility. They are currently utilizing space in the campus library to treat their athletes.
It is our hope the CATS community can come together to help this sports medicine program rebuild.

From Ben Hall, Director of Sports Medicine, at Montreat College:
The athletic training room is located on the lower level of our gymnasium, which is around 20 yards from a beautiful creek that sends the peaceful sound of running water to all who take the time to listen. Typically, with increased rainfall, the creek water levels will rise with increased flow rate, but unless a drain is significantly clogged or blocked, the creek and lake beside our gym easily handles the increased precipitation. With the threat of possible flooding, our campus took steps to mitigate damage and loss by elevating items off of the floor, clearing drains and placing sandbags to divert any possible rushing water into the lower doors that would cause interior flooding. Overnight the power had been knocked out as well as most cell service, but even between 8:00 – 9:00 AM most of campus appeared to be handling the downfall well, except for the gym. The increased water had turned the main road as well as the small access driveway to the lower level of the gym into an additional tributary of the creek because it could no longer contain the deluge of rainfall. The double doors to the lower level of the gym had been knocked off their frame and the river continued through the entire lower level of the gym into the lake as continuation of the creek (which had been transformed into an overflowing, raging river). Over the next ninety minutes the rainfall continued to cause the water level to rise, causing massive damage to the training room, weight room, and office spaces. Entire walls, desks, treatment tables, aerobic equipment, and weights were washed out as rocks, trees, and rapids raced through the facility. Over the next few days, the reality sent in of the damage to the campus and the surrounding area. Our gym was hit hard but other families in our area suffered even greater loss. We’re grateful for the safety of our students through the storm and thankful we have the opportunity to rebuild. As we look towards the future we will operate out of converted areas on our campus and in surrounding facilities who have been gracious enough to allow us to share their space. We have been showered by the generosity of others who have assisted with the early stages of this rebuilding phase and are grateful for so much support form local, state, and national organizations!
We really are grateful if one of any of these items get donated.
