    Description: This position is responsible for the department’s athletic health care administration that includes the development, coordination, and delivery of professional and administrative services essential to the successful implementation of a comprehensive sports medicine program. Direct supervision and management of the three full-time staff members and 12 student assistants is required. Also involved as the primary medical care provider for injuries sustained to student-athletes in the Washington University Athletic Department program and provides quality comprehensive health care through prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of an injury or illness.


    1. Serve as the primary clinician in the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses to Washington University student-athletes. Manage and direct the treatment and rehabilitation of injuries for select sports.

    2. Responsible for the coordination and coverage of athletic training services including other staff members with assignment of practice and game coverage. Supervise athletic training staff including

    recruitment, hiring, training, performance management of full-time and student staff members. Serve as an Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI) for the supervision of the graduate athletic training students in the St. Louis University Program.

    3. Primary liaison with team physicians in scheduling orthopedic clinic visits, physical exam sessions, collaborating on athlete status, and contact for referrals.

    4. Chief administrator of the management of the athletic training budget, including processing and management of insurance claims for injuries sustained while participating in the athletic department program.

    5. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:

    ·         Bachelor of Science with five plus years of experience as an athletic trainer.

    ·         BOC Certified Athletic Trainer in good standing with the National Athletic Trainers Association.

    ·         Eligibility for licensure or current licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Missouri.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    ·         Master of Science with seven plus years of experience as an athletic trainer.

    ·         Demonstrated advanced knowledge and proficiency with injury evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation protocols,

    ·         Prior experience with administration responsibilities.

    ·         Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills are necessary.
