    Position Description – Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer

    Belhaven University, a private university located in Jackson, MS, is receiving applications for the role of a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer beginning in August of 2020.  Successful candidates will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment committed to the health and well-being of student-athletes.  Belhaven is an NCAA Division III institution sponsoring fifteen sports programs and holding conference membership in the American Southwest Conference (ASC). 

    Position Responsibilities:

    The Athletic Trainer is directly accountable to the Head Athletic Trainer and is responsible to carry out responsibilities related to the prevention, evaluation, and treatment of athletic injuries. Athletic Trainers will be expected to develop and implement therapeutic exercise programs, maintain thorough medical records in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA, and supervise and mentor work study and clinical students. Athletic Trainers are expected to adhere to NATA and state laws of practice related to Athletic Training. Sport assignments will include volleyball, basketball, track, and cross country.

    Position Requirements:

    1) Graduate of a CAATE accredited program; 2) BOC Certified; 3) Eligible for State of Mississippi Licensure; 4) CPR/AED Certified 5) Accepted in a Graduate Program at Belhaven University. The candidate must fully support the vision and mission of the University as well as subscribe to its Statement of Faith. (http://www.belhaven.edu/belhaven/mission.htm).   

    This position is a ten month position. Compensation for the position will include full tuition remission and a stipend. The Graduate Assistant Position will be a two year appointment. There is opportunity over the summer to do hourly contract work through summer camps and the orthopaedic clinic. The position also includes reimbursement for professional development including CEUs, licensure, dues, and liability insurance.
