    Job Purpose Towson University, a Division I member of the Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking an Athletic Trainer. This position will coordinate and provide health care and comprehensive athletic training services to student-athletes; maintain records and supplies and ensure fiscal responsibility as it relates to student-athlete care. Coordinate care with sports medicine physicians in the integration of evidence-based rehabilitation strategies in order to ensure the student-athletes are able to effectively and safely return to full fitness/participation; work collaboratively within a sports performance model with other professionals including: Sr. Associate AD for Sports Medicine and Performance, Head Athletic Trainer, Sports Dietitian, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, and Clinical psychologist, to ensure positive student-athlete experience and treatment outcomes, and to mitigate the risk of sustaining injury.


     The Athletic Trainer will conduct and supervise injury and illness prevention, injury management, immediate care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and provide ongoing patient supervision to ensure compliance with treatment plans, expectations, and standing operating procedures outlined by the sports medicine physicians as required by Maryland State Practice Act. This position will report to the Head Athletic Trainer in the Towson Center/Field House and must be able to work in a creative and collaborative team environment where change is embraced and innovation is encouraged. The incumbent will manage administrative duties as assigned by the Sr. Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance and/or Head Athletic Trainer. This individual will also serve as a preceptor to mentoring athletic training students in the Athletic Training Education Program. Will take on various other duties at the discretion of the Head Athletic Trainer and Sr. Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance.

    In consultation with the Head Athletic Trainer, formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans, implement treatments, and monitor progress. Possess technical and practical expertise in the appropriate application and supervision of a wide range of rehabilitative exercises / therapy and diagnostic equipment. Apply evaluative skills and techniques for orthopedic and medical problems associated with intercollegiate athletics as well as participate in the medical clearance and evaluation of incoming and returning student-athletes

    The incumbent will record, analyze and maintain medical records for daily treatments/Rehabilitation, practice and game limitations, medical services, and referrals. Communicate and interact with medical professionals, coaches, and administrative staff. Coordinate diagnostic tests. Secure test results and prepare information for Physician Clinics. Gather information needed for insurance claims. Follow up as needed. Delegated administrative tasks and facility management responsibilities including but not limited to assisting with compliance, inventory, and insurance. Serve as a preceptor in the ATEP. Provide supervision of athletic training students during their clinical experience. Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer and Sr. Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance.



     Master’s degree and two years of clinical experience in athletic training post certification required. The selected candidate must have Board of Certification (BOC); be Maryland State License eligible; and have the ability to evaluate medical condition of student-athletes prior to, and during, their participation in intercollegiate athletics. Under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer implements treatments and rehabilitation services. Must have the ability to work and understand human performance in relation to workload management. Also collaborate in data management for performance monitoring and collaborative decision making.

    Athletics trainers will need to obtain Maryland Licensure and complete a three-stage process, requiring completion of the Licensure Application and finger printing, as well as obtaining an Evaluation and Treatment Protocol prior to performing any Athletic Training duties with student-athletes.


    • FMS, PES, CES, or CSCS credentials or equivalent.
    • Experience in injury prevention programming and performance enhancement models.
    • Clinical experience in Athletic Training at the collegiate level and working in a medical performance model.
