    Job Description:

    Assist the Assistant Athletics Director, Sports Medicine in servicing the medical needs of student-athletes with special reference to the care, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.

    General Notes

    This position may be required to work non-traditional hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.


    • Provide primary medical coverage for the baseball team as assigned by the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director, including all practices, home and away competitions, and host events.Assist in designing, initiating and progressing rehabilitation programs as needed according to the changing health status of injured or ill student-athletes.
    • Assist in the design and implementation of exercise and rehabilitation programs for student-athletes with medical conditions and monitor outcomes of such programs. Assist in medical documentation and maintaining electronic medical records. Evaluate readiness to compete.
    • Facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration by working with relevant allied health disciplines (i.e., chiropractic, nutrition, massage therapy, etc.) in the pursuit of health care solutions. Adhere to institutional policies and NCAA rules with regards to medical expense coverage. Assist with administering institutional drug education and testing program.
    • Supervise and train undergraduate athletic training students as assigned. Work cooperatively with other staff, coaches and department personnel.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director, Sports Medicine and Assistant Athletics Director, Sports Medicine. Drive a UT and/or personal rental vehicle on and off campus.

    Required Qualifications

    Master’s degree. 3 years of experience working with baseball student-athletes. Licensed Athletic Trainer by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (or eligible). NATABOC certification. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively work in teams. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Proven effectiveness in cross-disciplinary collaboration both inside (in other units and functions) and outside the organization. Experience with creation, acquisition, and maintenance of medical records. Knowledge and support of NCAA rules and regulations. Demonstrated understanding of the medical needs, expectations, and requirements of student-athletes to promote, maintain, and enhance their health and well-being. Demonstrated interest in pursuing continuous personal and professional development activities. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

    Preferred Qualifications

    More than 3 years of experience as an Athletic Trainer at NCAA Division I level. Advanced certifications in adjunct allied health specialties, e.g. CSCS, LMT, PT, CES, PES, etc. or demonstrated advanced clinical skill set. Experience in athletic training student supervision. Experience implementing complementary and alternative therapies into conventional plans of care when appropriate. Experience managing departmental operational budget and providing oversight for departmental medical financial responsibilities. Experience administering institutional drug testing and education program. This position is designated as a Responsible Employee, pursuant to Title IX and University policy.
