    Assistant Athletic Trainer Job Description – Washington University

    Washington University (WashU) is a selective, private research institution that was founded in 1853 with highly ranked undergraduate programs and top ranked graduate programs including the Olin Business School and the School of Medicine.  WashU is located in St. Louis, the second largest city in Missouri which has a thriving music and arts scene, unique neighborhoods with distinct personalities, successful professional sports teams, and a host of local owned restaurants and shops.  

     

    WashU Athletics has a rich tradition of athletic achievement that began over 100 years ago and competes at the Division III level of the NCAA.  WashU’s varsity sports portfolio contains 19 programs.  WashU’s primary conference affiliation is the University Athletic Association Conference (UAA) while football competes in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).  With an alumni base spread throughout the country, the reach of WashU’s athletic programs continues to grow.  

    Position Summary
    Serves as the primary medical care provider for injuries sustained to student-athletes in the Washington University Athletic Department program. Provides quality comprehensive health care through prevention, evaluation, treatment of injury or illness and act as a therapist for rehabilitation care. The primary sport assignments will be designated by the Head Athletic Trainer.

     

    Primary Duties & Responsibilities

    • ·         Prevention, evaluation, treatment, referral, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses to Washington University student-athletes.
    • ·         Assist in teaching and instruction of the athletic training class, PE 291.
    • ·         Assist in organizing and conducting the in-service educational program for the athletic training students.
    • ·         Assist in supervision of students employed in the athletic training program.
    • ·         Manage the computer storage of the electronic medical records.
    • ·         Work in conjunction with colleagues in athletic training and strength and conditioning to address injury issues.
    • ·         Perform other duties as assigned.

    Preferred Qualifications 

    • ·         Master's degree with two years of experience as an athletic trainer.
    • ·         Advanced knowledge and proficiency with injury evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation.
    • ·         Prior experience with administration responsibilities.

    Required Qualifications

    • ·         Bachelor of Science; no experience needed as an athletic trainer.
    • ·         Certified Athletic Trainer in good standing from National Athletic Trainers Association.
    • ·         Licensed as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Missouri.

     

    Working Conditions

    Occasional lifting of water coolers weighing 60 pounds is necessary. Travel with sports to away competition with an overnight stay is required 10-12 times/year. Duties also involve evenings and weekends.

    Salary range: This position is full-time during the months of August through May. The pro-rated hiring pay range is $3,816.67 to $5,070.83 monthly for the months considered to be full-time.

    Base pay is commensurate with experience.

    The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
