    Position Summary

    Under the general direction of the Student Health and Counseling Services’ (SHCS) Director of Health Services, Associate AD, Sports Medicine and the daily lead work direction of the Head Athletic Trainer, the Athletic Trainer II provides leadership for the assistant athletic training staff. 

    The Athletic Trainer II serves as the primary athletic trainer for his/her assigned sport(s) and manages assigned administrative duties. 

    The Athletic Trainer II assists with the establishment of the athletic program budget; establishment of the Sports Medicine’s policies and procedures; ensures compliance with provisions of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as well as compliance with HIPAA and OSHA Standards.

    FLSA: Exempt

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,886 - $7,531/monthly

    Hiring Range: $4,750 - 5,600 per month, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training

    Salary Grade/Range: 1

    Recruitment Type: Temporary (Annually Renewable)

    Time Base: Full-Time

    Pay Plan: 12 months 

    Work Hours: To be determined at time of hire.

    Department Information 

    Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS) embraces a holistic and collaborative approach to healthcare by offering urgent care, primary care, preventative services, wellness education, violence support services, and mental health, services to the Sacramento State campus community.  SHCS is committed to providing quality care and service delivery and is accredited through the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

    Minimum Qualifications 

    Knowledge:

    Comprehensive knowledge of the Athletic Trainer I position. 

    Abilities:

    Ability to demonstrate full-to-advanced proficiency in the skills and abilities of the Athletic Trainer I; demonstrate the leadership, organizational, and administrative skills involved in coordinating an athletic training and sports medicine program.

    Experience and Education:

    Equivalent to two years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer in a high school or college environment.

    Equivalent to bachelor’s degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

    License and Certifications:

    Possess and maintain Board of Certification (BOC) certification for Athletic Trainer. Some positions may require a valid California driver’s license.

    Required Qualifications 

    1. General knowledge of the principles and practices of athletic training including conditioning, injury prevention, injury assessment and rehabilitation. 
    2. Ability to: effectively assess and evaluate injuries and their severity; develop conditioning and rehabilitation programs and manage and treat injuries; use the full range of appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments and rehabilitation and exercise equipment to treat and prevent injuries. 
    3. Ability to maintain confidentiality. 
    4. Organizational and detail-oriented skills. 
    5. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. 
    6. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. 
    7. Possess and maintain Board of Certification (NATABOC) certification for the Certified Athletic Trainer. 
    8. Possess current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification. 

    Conditions of Employment:  Ability to pass a background check

    Preferred Qualifications 

    1. Master’s Degree in Athletic Training from an Accredited University. 
    2. Experience Working with Electronic Health Records.
    3. Minimum 5 years post graduate employment in a collegiate setting, preferably Division I, with both men’s and women’s sports.

    The ASR contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for Sacramento State for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the Police Service Center located in the University Union.
