Manhattanville College is seeking a full time (12 month) assistant athletic trainer to grow its staff. This position involves assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in developing and implementing the sports medicine program for intercollegiate athletics at Manhattanville College. This position will be responsible for assisting in aspects of the sports medicine program including coordination of team doctor visits, game and practice coverage, rehabilitation, EMR records and data entries in the NCAA Surveillance System. The position reports to the Head Athletic Trainer and the Director of Athletics & Recreation.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • The individual in this position will provide preventative and rehabilitative health care to Manhattanville College student-athletes
    • Coordinate with the Head Athletic Trainer in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, referral and rehabilitation of injuries/illnesses of student-athletes
    • Daily healthcare of student athletes and athletic room operation
    • Recording and maintaining appropriate medical records for treatment
    • Daily practice coverage, game day assignments, and travel as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer
    • Scheduling of appointments for treatment and the coordination of health insurance related processes
    • Communicate frequently and accurately with team physicians, physical therapists, student athlete's coaches, and campus health services using approved technological resources
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer

     

    Clinical Evaluation and Diagnosis

    • Evaluation of athletic injuries
    • Serve as liaison between student-athletes and the team physician. This includes ensuring compliance with team physician instructions
    • Assist Head Athletic Trainer in coordinating allied healthcare services (physician, cardiologists, dentist, physical therapist, neurologists etc.)

     

    Immediate and Emergency Care

    • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer to ensure all emergency action policies and protocols are up to date and all emergency medical equipment is certified/operational

     

    Treatment and Rehabilitation

    • Responsible for performing treatments within the scope of practice
    • Responsible for creating rehabilitation programs
    • Treat acute and chronic injuries to maintain student athlete performance

    Organization and Professional Health and Well-Being

    • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in all aspects of the sports medicine program including coordination of team doctor visits, scheduling of game and practice coverage, data logins of the NCAA Surveillance System
    • Maintain computerized health/injury records on supervised student-athletes
    • Assist with maintaining athletic training facility and inventory of supplies and equipment
    • Responsible for updating and distributing medical compliance paperwork for student athletes
    • Assist Head Athletic Trainer in filing secondary insurance claims

     

    Game Coverage

    • Travel with teams as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer
    • Responsible for pregame set-up and postgame breakdown of all emergency/athletic training equipment
    • Communicate/Coordinate with on-site administrator, game staff, opposing teams, and officials

     The successful candidate will demonstrate the following key competencies:

    • Ability to work in a diverse work environment and to establish and maintain effective work relationships with school administrators, parents, students, and alums
    • Ability to lead and work independently as well as within a team environment.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with student-athletes, coaches, health care professionals as well as athletic and college administration.

    Required:

    • BOC certification
    • NATA Membership and NYS certification eligible
    • Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certification
    • NPI number

    Preferred:

    • Master’s degree in related field
    • 3-5 years’ experience

     Physical Demands/Other Requirements

    This position requires persons to:

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
    • Travel required for competitions
