Carson-Newman University invites applicants for open Athletic Trainer positions within our sports medicine team.  Sport assignments will be determined upon selection of individuals for hire.  Possible assignments include football and men’s soccer.  These are 12-month positions with a salary ranging between $40,000 and $45,000, depending on qualifications and experience.  Carson-Newman athletics competes in NCAA Division II and is a member of the South Atlantic Conference.  The sports medicine team consists of eleven (11) full-time athletic trainers, four (4) strength & conditioning coaches, a mental health counselor, and several volunteer team physicians including orthopedic surgeons and primary care sports medicine specialists.  The University is in Jefferson City, Tennessee, approximately 30 minutes from Knoxville and near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, the Athletic Trainer will serve as the primary healthcare provider for student-athletes on assigned teams.  Services expected to be provided include, but are not limited to, physical screenings, injury prevention programs, athletic consults, injury assessment, and treatment/case management of injured student-athletes.

The successful candidates will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in athletic training (Master’s preferred) and will possess BOC certification as an athletic trainer.  The candidate will be required to obtain licensure as an athletic trainer in the state of Tennessee before starting work as an athletic trainer.  Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills are required.    These positions require frequent early morning and/or evening and weekend/holiday work as well as regular overnight travel with assigned teams.  Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations.

Carson-Newman University expects all employees to conduct themselves in a manner that is appropriate for a Christian institution and to be worthy examples in moral conduct.
