    Jackson State University Athletic Training Intern Position


    Assist the head and assistant athletic trainers in all aspects of care for the Jackson State University student-athletes. Demonstrate a commitment to the athletics department mission and play an active role in the Jackson State University community. Be knowledgeable and follow NCAA Division I and SWAC policies and procedures regarding intercollegiate athletics as it relates to sports medicine. Candidates should possess a strong independence and desire to work autonomously. The Athletic Trainer intern reports directly to the Head Athletic Trainer. This is a 10 month, full-time temporary position, with no benefits that is renewable for one year, pending satisfactory performance. The stipend for the position is $15,000. The individual selected will receive a stipend distributed on a monthly basis.


    • Assist with all aspects of the Sports Medicine program including but not Limited to:

      • Preparation and implementation of training room policies.

      • Injury prevention, evaluation and rehabilitation of student athletes including referrals to more advanced medical professionals.

      • Maintain open communication with all members of medical and athletic staff.

      • Maintain up-to-date documentation of pre-participation paperwork and help administer physicals and baseline concussion testing for all student.athletes.

      • Complete medical insurance paperwork.

      • Manage data from medical record software and distribute daily reports.

      • Identify unsafe environmental conditions that could cause harm to student-athletes.

      • Help with inventory management to maintain a fully stocked athletic training room.

      • Provide game day medical coverage for home and away athletic events including the ability to coordinate steps outlined in the Jackson State University Emergency Action Plan.

      • Travel to away games with assigned teams.

      • Administrative and all other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.

    • Requirements:

      • Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or similar field from an accredited college

      • BOC Certification

      • MS State Licensure (or eligible for)

      • CPR/AED Certifications
