    Athletic Training Intern – ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    An Athletic Training Intern is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in maintaining and representing a NCAA Division II athletic program that supports student recruitment and enhances the educational experience and personal growth of the student-athletes. The Intern will cooperate with the Head Athletic Trainer to manage assigned teams and all aspects based on strict adherence to the University’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Policies and Procedures.  The Intern is equally responsible for conducting all activities in accordance with all state and federal regulations, accreditation standards and the University’s policies and procedures, all conference and NCAA regulations consistent with the highest ethical standards.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • 1.       Attend to assigned teams in regards to practice and game coverage, along with regular treatment and rehabilitation sessions.
    • 2.       Accurately and completely portrays University’s educational programs, expected outcomes, student services, and financial consideration to students, parents, and educators.
    • 3.       Assists other personnel and departments with data collection and problem solving.
    • 4.       Participates in appropriate Department of Intercollegiate Athletics activities including: weekly staff meetings, training sessions, orientation programs, cultural and social activities, etc. Make available for any representational and public relations activities.
    • 5.       Assists in the plans and administering practices and contests consistent with the goals of successful seasons. Assists in team travel, fundraising, player interactions with Athletic Training Staff, Sports Information and Compliance personnel.
    • 6.       Counsel student athletes with regard to academic success and campus and community citizenship.
    • 7.       Conducts all activities in accordance with the highest ethical standards.  Adheres to all state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and the University’s and conference and NCAA policies and procedures, regarding intercollegiate athletic activities.
    • 8.       Any other duties as assigned.
    • ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
    • Reports to: Head Athletic Trainer and Director of Athletics
    • Interacts with: external and internal constituents: potential students, parents, educators, vendors, and campus and University colleagues.
    • Compensation:  Stipend and Housing

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    • ·         Bachelor’s degree required in a related field.
    • ·         Pass NATABOC exam
    • ·         Valid Driver’s license/qualified to operate a passenger vehicle up to 12 or 15 passenger van consistent with university insurance regulations.
    • ·         Excellent oral and written communication and computer skills required
    • ·         Outstanding time-management skills with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
    • ·         Excellent communications and interpersonal skills. Able to work effectively with people from global, diverse cultures and different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
    • ·         Commitment to the balance of academic and athletic achievement and integration in a small university setting is essential.
    • ·         The Athletic Director has the right to withdraw the position if the position isn’t being used correctly or the Graduate Assistant creates a work environment that isn’t conducive.
